Urgent Care Centre

Improving your access to care

Two Urgent Care Centres are planned for Bermuda, one in the East (in St David’s) and the other in the West (in Southampton). The goal is to bring care closer to the people who need it.

The UCCs aim to provide medical help for people who become ill or have an accident out of hours and need urgent access to care so cannot wait to see their GP. Generally they are for non-life threatening but urgent conditions, such as minor accidents or sudden illnesses. People who are in a critical condition should still attend the Emergency Department at King Edward VII Memorial Centre, with its more advanced diagnostic equipment and surgical services.

Alongside medical personnel, support care services at the UCCs will include basic diagnostic (such as x-ray), pharmacy and laboratory (such as blood tests). Additionally, there will be an ambulance housed in each location. The Eastern Urgent Care Centre opened April 1st, 2009, and the Western Urgent Care Centre in April 2010. The Eastern Urgent Care Centre is being built first due to the potential for the East End of the Island to be cut off from the rest of the Island (and so from the hospital) if the causeway is damaged following a hurricane.
